Special Education Preschool Program

The Creighton School District Special Education Preschool Program provides special education services in a caring and nurturing environment for preschool aged children with developmental delays and now for 4 year old typically developing peers.

The Preschool Education Program (PEP) provides a full range of services including therapies and developmental preschool classes that meet four days a week (Monday through Thursday) for 3 hours a day, and special education transportation. Our classes are designed for young children, ages 3-5, with mild to significant delays.

An additional placement option for Creighton School District eligible preschool special needs students is the district's full day Creighton Preschool Program (CPP). CPP is now in place as a result of the district's qualification for the state Preschool Development Grant. Special needs four-year-old preschoolers who meet the grant requirements (reside in the 4 zip codes, are 4 years old by September 1st and meet the income eligibility criteria) may be placed in CPP as a result of requiring a least restrictive environment based on their individualized education plan (IEP). The CPP provides a 6-hour, 4 days a week program which when required includes access to a range of services and therapies. Special education transportation is provided for the preschoolers that the IEP team determines would benefit from the structure and offerings that CPP provides.

Free monthly community screenings are held at Papago School, located at 2013 N. 36th Street. These screenings assist in identifying children aged three through five who may have developmental delays or are suspected of having a disability. If a child during the play based observation demonstrates delays, the early childhood special education evaluation team will assess the child in five developmental domains; communication, motor, adaptive, cognitive, and social-emotional. If a child is then found eligible for services, an IndividualEducation Program (IEP) is written to address the needs of the child and s/he is offered placement at one of our 10 CSD Preschool Special Education classes.
