What is a Browser?
•Software that allows you to explore the WWW. It functions as your “car” on the “Information Highway”. Software translates HTML into Graphical images.
Common Browsers:
Netscape - Navigator or Communicator
Microsoft Internet Explorer
AOL

On a Mac: Your Internet Browsers are usually found in your hard drive in a folder called Internet. This folder may be found inside of a folder called Applications. You need to find the actual application icon and double click it.

On a Windows: Your Internet Browsers are usually found under the Programs folder in the Start Menu.

The Navigation Bar(picture below) serves as your “steering wheel.” You need to be able to move forward and backwards as well as jump to other areas on the web.
BACK: This will take you to the previous page.
FORWARD: This will move you forward to an already accessed page. i.e. You have clicked BACK to view a previous page then you decide you want to return to the page you were at before you clicked BACK.
REFRESH: To get the latest information on a page click RELOAD.
HOME: The browser has a starting page called the Home Page. You can determine your borrowers home page in the Preferences.
PRINT: You can print whatever is on your browser’s screen. Be aware that web sites can be many pages long. Scroll down before you send 20 pages to the printer.
STOP: This will stop a page from loading.
