Child Nutrition & Wellness

Children spend 12 years of their youth in school developing minds, 
bodies, and attitudes in preparation for life. They spend six to seven hours daily in school, influenced daily by the experiences that shape lives and, ultimately, the future.

The school food service program is an essential part of the total education provided to our students. Based on the premise that well-nourished students are better prepared to learn, the Child Nutrition & Wellness Department plays a vital role on the educational team of the school.

During the school year, the Child Nutrition & Wellness Department is:

  • Serving an average of 6,500 lunch meals per day at 9 sites.
  • Providing lunch meals at 9 sites in the district.
  • Providing Breakfast-in-the-Classroom district-wide. 
  • Providing catering services for special functions throughout the district.
  • Registered dietitians available to answer nutrition-related questions.
  • Continuing to analyze menus in order to meet dietary guidelines.

Our Staff

The Food Service Department is comprised of approximately 80 employees preparing breakfast and lunch for our students and staff. Erin Bronner, RD, SNS, Child Nutrition Director, Rick Hall, District Food Service Manager of Operations, and Britni O'Connell, RDN, District Food Service Manager of Nutrition, oversee all site services. They have more than 30 years of training and professional experience in food service and nutrition education combined. Each site is managed by a Cafeteria Manager who has completed an extensive food safety course and passed the ServSafe exam.

The Food Service staff believes that together we can make a healthy difference in the lives of the students of the Creighton Elementary School District.
