Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS)

  • Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) meets when the student is experiencing learning, behavior, or other school related problems. The purpose of the meeting(s) is to determine whether all appropriate services have been considered, and whether the student’s needs can be met within the regular education setting. Multi-Tiered Systems of Support may:

    • Recommend the assistance of any remedial specialists

    • Recommend other services available at the school site or in the district or community

    • Recommend specific strategies to be implemented by the classroom teacher

    • Recommend formal assessment of the student if it appears special education should be considered

    The members of MTSS may include: Site MTSS Coordinator (Effective Schools Coach), school psychologist, classroom teacher, school nurse, speech-language pathologist, resource support staff, building principal, parents and/or guardians
