A New Chapter: Papago School Renamed to Iron Mountain Academy

In May, the Creighton School District Governing Board formally approved the renaming of Papago School to Iron Mountain Academy, marking the culmination of a thoughtful, multi-year process. The new name was carefully chosen to better reflect the identity, values, and landscape of the community the school serves. Visible from the campus and proudly represented in the school’s logo, Piestewa Peak—originally known as Vianom Do’ag in the O’odham language, meaning “iron mountain”—holds cultural and geographic significance. By adopting this name, the school honors the deep roots and heritage of the land. A heartfelt thank you goes to our school community for their unwavering commitment and advocacy in making this important change a reality.
